The Wilmington Fire Protection District provides fire, rescue, and emergency services to the residents of:
- City of Wilmington
- Florence Township
- Wilmington Township
- Wesley Township
The fire district protects 104 square miles in Will County from one central station located at 501 N. Main Street in Wilmington.
The fire district was founded in 1868 as the Empire Hook & Ladder Company. Since its beginnings, the fire district strives to provide the best possible emergency service to the residents it protects each and every day.
The station is staffed with 6 crew members during the day shift (7a-7p) and 6 at night (7p-7a). Firefighters on duty are assisted by paid on call members as needed. In the event that assistance is needed from additional communities, the Wilmington Fire Protection District is a member of the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) Division 15. This system allows incident commanders to call upon additional resources quickly, and efficiently.
